Man charged with obstruction of justice after helping teenage friend run away from home

Lt. Andy Manis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Dominique McCowin, 29, of 44 Reynolds Mountain Blvd. in Asheville, with obstruction of justice.
Victor Braxton Adams, 16, ran away from his home at 35 Chestnut Hill Drive in Marion on Thursday, Nov. 2 and was located on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at McCowin’s residence.
Manis said witnesses saw a vehicle matching McCowin’s in the area of Adams’ house on the day he left.
An investigation showed that McCowin picked Adams up that day, and Adams stayed at McCowin’s the whole time he was missing.
Manis stated that the suspect had been questioned concerning his friend’s whereabouts and told deputies he had not seen or spoken with Adams.
