Getaway vehicle hits police car after burglary suspect jumps out

A burglary suspect in a stolen car jumped from the moving vehicle, which continued to roll, hitting several mail boxes before colliding with a police car Monday morning.

At about 3:45 a.m. Monday, March 14, officers responded to reports of a man entering vehicles in the 600 block of Bradbury Drive. As police were arriving in the area an officer spotted a Chevrolet S-10 pickup pass him on Crestview Road. Before the officer could turn around, the driver jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot.

The pickup continued to travel on Crestview toward Ford Street. The truck then struck an arriving police unit at Ford and Crestview.

Police located stolen property in the vehicle, which also had been stolen in Grand Terrace. Police confirmed at least two vehicles in the area had been broken into.

Police searched the area but did not locate the suspect. One officer was treated and released from Redlands Community Hospital.
