Multiple search warrants served in shooting investigation

Redlands Police, along with officers from several other agencies, served search warrants at six homes Thursday morning in connection with the continuing investigation into the fatal shooting of two teenagers.

Search warrants were served simultaneously at about 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at two homes in the 1000 block of Columbia Street, a home in the 1100 block of Calhoun Street, and a home in the 600 block of Riverview Drive in Redlands, along with a home in the 37000 block of High Ridge Drive, in Beaumont, and another in the 3100 block of Antelope Way, in Ontario.

Police contacted several people at those addresses and made three arrests. Rogelio Romero, 33, was arrested in the 1000 block of Columbia Street on a weapons violation unrelated to the shooting. Johnny Legaspi, 51, of Beaumont was arrested for possession of stolen property; and a 17-year-old boy was arrested for a probation violation. The investigation into the fatal shooting is continuing.

The shooting occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, in a common playground area between two apartment buildings on Oxford Drive north of Colton Avenue. Police began receiving calls immediately reporting shots fired and victims down in the area of Oxford Drive, Post Street and Colton Avenue.

When they arrived officers found four teenage males who had been shot. One victim, 17-year-old Quinn McCaleb, located at the corner of Post Street and Sun Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three victims were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center where 16-year-old Andrew Jackson died a short time later. The other two victims were hospitalized with injuries and have since been released. A fifth teen escaped without injury.

Investigators are seeking information on a Hispanic man between 17 and 20 years old, between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 150 to 170 pounds with a thin build. He had a mustache and wore a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting.

Redlands Police investigators are also seeking information on a vehicle or vehicles seen in the area of the shooting. One vehicle is described as a dark green mid to late 1990s model Honda Accord or Honda Civic four-door sedan. Another vehicle of interest may be a dark colored vehicle with shiny rims. It is unknown whether either vehicle was involved in the shooting.

A $10,000 reward, provided by an anonymous donor, has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects in the shooting.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Sgt. Mark Hardy at (909) 798-7545 or Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681. Anonymous tips can be provided by texting 274637 using the keyword “REDTIP.”
