Hi-Desert Medical Center Announces October Community Health Education Seminars

Hi-Desert Medical Center is offering two community health education seminars in October:

“STROKE: A BRAIN ATTACK”

Thursday, October 21, 6 p.m., in the Helen Gray Education Center.

A stroke does to the brain what a heart attack does to the heart. Symptoms of stroke depend on what part of the brain is damaged. In some cases, a person may not be aware that he or she has had a stroke. Symptoms usually develop suddenly and without warning or may occur sporadically for a day or two. What causes a stroke and can it be prevented? Join Neurologist Esmaeil Sebti, M.D., and learn about strokes: what is stroke, who is at risk, can it be prevented, and what should you do if you experience stroke symptoms.

“AN OVERVIEW OF BREAST RECONSTRUCTION OPTIONS”

Thursday, October 28, 6 p.m., in the Helen Gray Education Center.

Breast augmentation, reduction and reconstruction are choices available to women today through plastic surgery. Plastic Surgeon Duncan Miles, M.D., FRCSC, who has specialized in complete breast reconstruction for over 10 years, will provide an overview of the choices available to those considering either elective or reconstructive surgery.

The seminars are FREE but reservations are required by calling (760) 366-6324 or by logging on to hdmc.org.

Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District is comprised of 179 licensed beds: the Hi-Desert Medical Center, a modern, 59-bed primary care hospital and the Continuing Care Center, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility on the campus of Hi-Desert Medical Center. Along with a wide range of quality inpatient and outpatient diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services, the District operates the Airway Outpatient Center—a full-service surgery and diagnostic center, the Behavioral Health Centre—an intensive mental health outpatient program, and family health clinics providing medical specialists for Medi-Cal patients. Home health and hospice and a variety of community education and outreach services are also provided.
